Place2Be

What is Place2Be?

Place 2 BePlace2Be is a charity that works in schools to improve the confidence and wellbeing of children to support their learning. We work together with parents, teachers and the children to help this happen.

In St. Catherine’s Primary there is a Place2Be room where children can go to express and think about their worries, through talking, painting, drawing and play. At Place2Be children are helped to find new ways of coping with difficulties they may have so that those difficulties don’t get in the way of their friendships or learning.

There can be times when children can feel particularly sad, confused, fearful or angry for a range of reasons and it is at these times that Place2Be at St. Catherine’s can be really helpful.

How does Place2Be help Children?

Place2Talk is a very popular service at St. Catherine’s. This service is open to all children without needing a referral, and is often used to discuss friendship difficulties or other things happening in a child’s life. Children can request a Place2Talk session by writing a slip in school and giving this to Sarah, who will then arrange a 15-minute lunchtime session with the child and any friends they wish to bring with them. This is often enough to address the difficulty the child is facing, but if a child is experiencing more challenges then there are a range of support options available.

At St Catherine’s, Place2Be offer a range of support to children including weekly counselling, whole-class sessions and group work. Each child referred to Place2Be is assessed to ensure they receive the best intervention to meet their needs. If you would like to discuss making a referral for your child, you can contact Sarah. Referrals can be made by parents and carers, school staff, or a pupil can refer themselves.

Feelings Display PosterPlace2Be at St.Catherine’s also offers support to teachers and all school staff members via Place2Think, which is a consultation service aimed at supporting staff to better support the children they work with, particularly regarding emotional wellbeing. This service offers staff the space to discuss any worries or concerns that they may have and to consider appropriate strategies.

In supporting children to feel better about themselves, we can help reduce the things that get in the way of them feeling good. In doing this we reduce the barriers to their learning so that they are able to learn more easily, as they become less pre-occupied with what is worrying them. This supports St.Catherine’s educational goals for their pupils.
