Trick Words

Initial Sounds This is in the order that the children learn the sounds in. This order supports early word building. It is important to pronounce these sounds accurately as it will help with blending sounds together to read words.

Consonant Digraphs – when 2 consonants go together to form a new sound. We say the sound is made up of 2 letters but it is one sound.

Vowel Sounds – a, e, i o and u are the simple vowels. When 2/3 letters go together to form a vowel sound we call this a vowel digraph. Children find this tricky so we use a clever colour coding system to help them.
